Katie & Tan are Official!

Katie and Tan were married this past Saturday.  The ceremony was at the University Church in Harvard Square and the reception was at the ever-so-  Bostonian Hampshire House.  Although every meteorologist in Boston was calling for “hurricane-like” weather, blue skies prevaled and provided the opportunity to take advantage of the Boston Public Gardens for tons of great photos!

Katie’s dress was the epitomy of “simple elegance.”  It was a beautiful lace-covered dress with flowers sewn in throughout.  It had a short train and was perfectly tailored for her slim figure.  Katie’s ear-to-ear smile complimented the dress perfectly!  The ladies wore some very fashionable copper dresses.

Tan, in spite of his incredible intelligence, is without a doubt, a goofball.  He and the guys made our job easy.  I was able to get some really crazy fish-eye shots of the guys in their tuxes sitting backwards in bright yellow chairs made for toddlers.  See below for a picture of their antics.  One of the unique experiences of the day was photographing Tan as he assisted his elderly father with his tuxedo.  The theme “circle of life” was ringing in my ears as I observed Tan diligently preparing his dad for the big day.  Although I didn’t speak the same language as his father, I could see the pride in his eyes that only a dad could have for a son.

At the end of the ceremony, we were able to take advantage of the church’s balcony and get a group shot of all the wedding attendees before they left the church.  Great idea Katie and Tan!

The Boston Public Gardens was our location for the formal photos.  The wedding party and parents were included.  We took our standard shots with the big group and then sent their parents on their way.  That’s when the fun began.  At one point, Tan almost went for a swim in the duck pond and then the whole group ended up “riding” on the “Make Way For Ducklings” bronze statues.  Yup, people definitely stopped and watched that one!  After that, I took Katie and Tan for a walk through the gardens and captured some great moments along the way.

The reception, fitting with Katie and Tan’s personalities, was intimate and fun.  They did a little last minute practicing in the Public Gardens before showing off in front of all the guests with a very well choreagraphed first dance.  After that, the Polka ruled the day!

A small guest list provided George and I the opportunity to work with a lot of the guests as family groups and/or individuals and take some fun portraits.  Since everyone is dressed up, it is the perfect opportunity to have family photos taken!  I almost forgot to mention the magical spiral staircase in the back of the Hampshire House.  See below for a great picture of this unique spot.

Our thanks to Katie and Tan for making us a part of your extended family for a day.  We had a great time!
