Engagement Session with Nikkie & Dave
Nikkie is an incredibly creative personand photographer, so I knew that I would have to keep our session non-traditional. To add to the creativity, Dave and Nikkie brought their Boxer Lucy along for the shoot. I’ve always been an animal lover, so I was thrilled with the idea!
We met at Scituate Light later in the day because Nikkie wanted to have photos taken around sunset. We took Lucy for a walk out on the jetty and got some casual shots of the family. We also snuck in a few photos of Nikkie and Dave around the lighthouse. One of my favorites is the photo that reflects the lighthouse in Dave’s sunglasses.
After locating my ladder that had disappeared during 20 minutes of shooting (the gentleman that took it said, "You’d be surprised how much stuff washes up along here!), we used the ladder to take a few shots on the rocks and then headed for Peggotty Beach so Lucy could get some serious exercise.
The fun (and challenging) part of working with animals is that you never know what they’re going to do. Lucy definitely kept it unpredictable. She even got me all twisted up in her leash, but Dave rescued me.
It was a pretty chilly evening, so after we left Peggotty Beach, we stopped off at Dunkin’ Donuts for a warm beverage while we waited for twilight. We headed back to the lighthouse and timed our arrival perfectly with "magic hour." I had Nikkie and Dave pose for the silhouette shots, with the lighthouse to their left and Scituate Harbor to their right. I also threw on the fisheye lens in hopes of capturing as much sky as possible in the picture. The sky was incredible that night! I showed Nikkie and Dave the picture on camera. Nikkie excitedly said, "Wow! How did you do that??!!" Just the response I was hoping for…
All the best to Nikkie, Dave and Lucy! I look forward to celebrating with you in August when you tie the knot. And Dave, a special thanks to you for your upcoming service in our Armed Forces. Be safe.
