Lisa & Chris’ Wedding

I sometimes find myself strugglingto put a specific feeling into words. You know what I mean. Think about that perfect day at the beach or that dinner you had with friends that went on forever because the conversation was so great. How do you describe that feeling in words?

George and I showed up to the Collegiate Church of Christ the Teacher on the Merrimack College campus around 3:30 p.m. The feeling was instant. This was going to be a great day. Chris had just pulled up to the church in a limo with his parents and groomsmen. He couldn’t stop smiling. You could see the joy on everyone’s face.

The guests soon arrived and it seemed as though this feeling was contagious. Everyone was smiling, hugging, celebrating. Lisa arrived on the party bus with her parents and bridesmaids. You could see the bus rocking with the music. The ceremony hadn’t even started and they were already having a dance party!

Lisa and Chris met while attending Merrimack College. During their time at the school, they started the "Best Buddies" program. It pairs college students with adults who have mental disabilities. The program is still in existence today. Both Lisa & Chris had a "Best Buddy." They were both there for the wedding and participated in the ceremony. It was an amazing demonstration of Lisa and Chris’ desire to improve the lives of those around them. Today, Lisa and Chris are both special education teachers.

Another special relationship that developed while Lisa and Chris were at Merrimack College was with Father Jim. He would preside over the ceremony along with the priest from Lisa’s home parish in Connecticut. You could tell that Father Jim was not only their priest, but a close friend and significant part of the day. On the dance floor later that evening, the many students from Merrimack College in attendance surrounded Father Jim as DJ Antonio dedicated a song to him. He too, was focused on improving the lives of those around him.

The reception was held at the Hilton Boston/Woburn. Chris’ business partner Antonio was the DJ for the evening. The two of them own Next Level Entertainment, a professional DJ service. Antonio had the party going from the intros. Everyone was up on the dance floor as the parents and bridal party walked, ran, danced, and slid their way into the room to the Black Eyed Peas, "I Gotta Feeling." And just when I thought the energy level couldn’t get any higher, Lisa & Chris walked through the doors. The room simply exploded. It was incredible.

The energy never died down. Guests were on the dance floor between every course. Once dinner was over, the party never stopped. Never.

Lisa and Chris – I consider it a privilege to have been a part of your wedding celebration. Your wedding was the epitome of what a wedding celebration should be. Love. Pure joy. Hope. The celebration of life together. I wish you both many years of joy as you continue your journey together. I know you will touch many other lives in the process.
