Have you ever run into someone who reminds you of someone else?Sometimes it’s just an initial reaction. Other times, the more you get to know the second person, the more the similarities mount. That’s what happened when I met Brian and Erin.
Brian reminds me so much of my good friend Ted. The more I got to know Brian (initial meeting, engagement session, pre-wedding consultation, and wedding), the more the similarities stood out. They’re both thoughtful, professional and kind. Why do I even mention this? Well, I hold the highest regard for my friend Ted and have quickly added Brian to that list. I’m so thrilled that a great guy like Brian found a truly incredible friend and life-long companion in Erin.
George and I arrived at the Omni Parker House in Boston a little early on the big day. We found out that Erin was still at the salon, so we sat to wait in the lobby. Just a few minutes later, Brian arrived. We tagged along with him to snap some candids with his family while we awaited Erin’s arrival.
Once Erin arrived, George and I both went to meet her and dug right into the detail shots. George got what he needed and the rejoined the guys. Once Erin had her dress on, we checked on the guys’ location and decided that we would go first to the Old City Hall courtyard, located just across the street from the Omni, for the formals. Fortunately, the forecast had been wrong and it wasn’t raining. Yeah! Once the ladies were done and back up stairs, the guys took their turn in the courtyard.
When I arrived back up stairs with Erin, we had some time to kill so I asked her if we could do some bridal portraits. She obliged. I sat her in a beautifully upholstered chair and took full advantage of the soft natural light flowing through the sheer curtains. I could tell by her personality that Erin was a competitor at heart. Fierce would be an understatement. I tried to capture that in a few of the photos.
The ceremony was held in the rich wood-paneled Press Room. Father O’Neill would marry Erin and Brian. He had done the same for Erin’s parents 30 years earlier. The first thing I noticed during the ceremony was how Brian couldn’t stop looking at Erin. He continually turned and smiled at her. And for good reason!
It wasn’t much longer until Brian and Erin were announced "husband and wife" and the string trio began playing the recessional. After a few family portraits in the Press Room, we wandered back to the courtyard across the street for the wedding party formals. Then (this is the best part), George and I walked around the Downtown Crossing area with Erin and Brian, doing our best to capture the many textures and architectural styles that lay before us. Erin, Brian and I picked out a few spots beforehand, so we didn’t waste time figuring out where to go on their wedding day. We ended with George standing in the middle of Tremont to grab the final photo we had planned – a wide shot right in front of the Omni Parker. I watched to make sure no one ran the red light. Yeah, we’ve got each other’s backs like that…
The reception was held in the Omni’s Rooftop ballroom on the 15th floor of the hotel. DJ Michael O’Neill was the MC for the evening’s events. He and Corey always do an amazing job playing to the crowd and making sure the bride and groom have exactly the style of party the wish for on their wedding day. Mike introduced the wedding party to the guests, after which Erin and Brian had their first dance as husband and wife. Following the toasts, we snuck out onto the fire escape so we could take a few photos of Erin and Brian with the Boston skyline behind them.
The rest of the night was pure fun. The guests rocked out to classic oldies, some of the best 80’s and 90’s, as well as hits from today. A new song I hadn’t heard until Erin and Brian’s wedding was Michael Franti & Spearhead’s "Say Hey." This was Erin and Brian’s formal last song and really captured the essence of the day – no matter where life took them, no matter what they learned, no matter who they met – the one constant would always be their love for each other.
