Betsy & Tim’s Wedding

It seems to be a trend this year. I get a phone callor email from a bride planning her wedding from out of state. Although she is originally from the area, she has moved away for one reason or another but is coming "home" for her wedding. So when I received an email from Betsy and found out she was originally from Rockland, but now lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, was I jealous that she now lived in some of the best ski country in the world and was completely surrounded by beautiful mountains – not at all. Well, maybe a little. And being the avid outdoor-adventurers they are, it seems like Betsy and Tim found the perfect place to live.

Our day started at Betsy’s mom’s house. The usual wedding day flurry of activity greeted us as we entered the home. We got straight to work on the dress and detail photos. I was extra excited because it was the first wedding for which I had my new lens, the Nikkor 85mm f1.4. It was time to put it to the test. We finished the details shots and then George headed down the street to meet up with Tim and the guys. Betsy and Tim actually grew up on the same street. At one point, we could look down the street and see Tim. Imagine finding the person of your dreams that close to home? So cool!

I did some formals with the ladies at the house. I quickly fell in love with the new lens as I captured Besty’s radiant smile and the background melted into butter around her. She was so excited for this day and could hardly contain herself. Her enthusiasm was unmatched – and for good reason.

The ceremony was held at the Holy Family Parish in Rockland which is also just down the street. Tim used to actually ride his bike in the back parking lot of the church as a kid. You can see it from the front of his house. And now, he and Betsy would be married on the same property.

Father Hickey, a well-know figure in this tight-knit community, resided over the service. And although we frequently hear only a single cantor during a catholic wedding mass, Holy Family had an entire worship team of people singing and playing various instruments. It was a welcomed change.

Following the service, we snapped a quick "everyone" photo on the front steps of the church and then a few large family photos. After that, we headed off to Jacob’s Farmhouse and Norris Reservation in Norwell with the wedding party. We had a great time wandering the woodsy reservation and capturing some truly unique images along the way.

The reception was held at Barker Tavern in Scituate, MA. We finished a few immediate family photos in front of this historic restaurant before Betsy and Tim were announced into their reception with thunderous applause from their friends and family. Betsy and Tim shared their first dance and were then toasted by the best man and maid of honor.

One of the other highlights of the night was when Besty shared a special dance with her brother Jon. Their father passed away over a decade ago. The bond this brother and sister had formed in the years since was evident as they crossed the dance floor arm-in-arm singing at the top of their lungs. It was priceless.

Betsy and Tim – thank you for giving us a role in your wedding day. We had such a great time celebrating with you all! And if you guys ever decided to go on vacation (say between December and March) and you need someone to house sit – give me a call! I, and my skis, would be happy to help you out! 😉
