Amie & Mohit’s Wedding

This past Saturday, we had the pleasure of shooting our first Hindu ceremony. Not only that, but we had a Christian ceremony as well!  Since there were multiple events happening throughout the day, some being simultaneous, we opted for a third photographer for this event, so Alana joined us.  Thank goodness!

Amie and Mohit selected the Providence Marriott Downtown to host their wedding event.  We arrived just before noon, got the lay of the land, and then met up with Amie and Mohit to head up the hill to Prospect Park for some formal shots of the two of them with a Providence skyline for our backdrop.  Although not all the drivers around us were cooperative, Mother Nature was and we were able to get some beautiful (and fun!) pictures at the park.  We also stopped on the way back to take some action shots in front of an ivy-covered stone wall.  This is where Amie and Mohit really let their personalities shine!

Back at the hotel, we took some formals with the family and bridal party before the Christian ceremony began.  Off to the ballroom!

Following the Christian ceremony, both Amie and Mohit spent some time visiting with their guests and then both headed off to change.  Mohit would have his ceremony with his family while Amie would be changing from her white dress into her red dress and adding family-heirloom jewelry to her attire.  Some of the jewelry has been passed down for four generations or more!

Mohit was then paraded back to the ballroom, followed soon by Amie and the rest of the ladies.   The ceremony began.  Both Amie and Mohit’s parents joined the couple on the platform.  The Pundit led the ceremony in Sanskrit, but was kind enough to translate into English.  Not only were there some solemn moments; there were also some humorous ones as well.  Mohit and Amie had a great time with the "If you…" and the "then I…" statements of marriage.  Unlike traditional vows where the groom makes one statement and the bride makes another, this tradition involved multiple back-and-forth statements about the requirements of their commitment to each other.  They also walked around the fire seven times, placed their feet on a stone, and gave traditional gifts from one family to the other.

Following this ceremony, we took a few more formal pictures and then Amie and Mohit joined the cocktail hour already in progress.

The reception was unlike any other in which we’ve participated.  The dance music was fantastic and there’s nothing as good as traditional Indian food!

We had a blast Amie and Mohit!  Thanks for allowing us to celebrate with you!
